About the British Open
British Open Championship
The British Open Championship is the oldest of the four major championships in professional golf. It is held in mid July and is the third major to be held every year, after The Masters and the U.S. Open. The British Open Championship is held on a rotating basis in one of nine historic golf courses throughout England and Scotland, and was held once in Ireland. The British Open Championship has historically offered the least prize money of the four majors. However, from 2002 to 2008 it offered the highest. The British Open Championship is open to the best professionals and those that are able to qualify for the event.
